Pastured Turkeys - Gobble Gobble!

Posted 10/30/2018 12:03pm by Stephanie Bradshaw.

Hi Friends,

Can you believe that November is right around the corner?  Thanksgiving will be here before we know it.  It's one of my favorite holidays as we give honor to the tradition of celebrating bounty, harvest, family and friends.  It's a time to reflect on how much we have to be thankful.  Blessing upon blessing!

Our pastured Turkeys are headed to the processor this week.  If you haven't reserved one yet, there's still time!  Just go to our online store and order Here!

Pastured turkeys are raised on grass and forage on legumes, bugs and grubs.  They are supplemented with a locally sourced GMO free feed.  Why does this matter? " Omega-3s are formed in the chloroplasts of green leaves and algae. Sixty percent of the fatty acids in grass are Omega-3s. Fresh pasture has two times more omega-3 than omega-6 fatty acids. Grain and soy, on the other hand, have far more omega-6s than omega-3s. Therefore, when you switch to grass fed products, you are helping to correct the gross imbalance in the western diet. Eating a balanced ratio of essential fatty acids is linked with a lower risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and mental disorders.  Another reason that raising animals on pasture is important:  No traces of antibiotics or other drugs.   In factory farms, a medicated feed is often used. That means the turkeys receive a sub-therapeutic dose of antibiotics in their grain. This is to keep them from getting sick because they live in a crowded, enclosed environment and have contact with their own waste that promotes pathogens. The antibiotics are prophylactic, meaning they are there to keep the animals from getting sick due to living in such close quarters. While there is no firm research that shows that medicated feed has adverse health effects, many people have concerns that medicated feed accelerates antibiotic resistance." (Holly Arbuckle.)

We've all heard the old adage, "you are what you eat" but really, you are what your food ate!  Choose wisely!

We are taking deposits on these plump birds and will email you the final weights before delivery.  Our Wilson county friends will receive FREE HOME DELIVERY when you order!

Don't miss out! Order Here!

Cheers to Healthy Eating,
